More than 60 companies in Northern Ireland took part in the #GetOnBoardNI Translink Corporate Challenge during Bus + Train Week 2017 and today four organisations have been announced as the winners.

Edwards & Co Solicitors came out on top as the grand champion of the Corporate Challenge, which asked organisations to broadly champion public transport, including the tracking of journeys by public transport instead of car. Other winners included Etain Ltd for Best Small Organisation, Barclays Bank Plc (Corporate Team) for Best Large Organisation and Northern Ireland Co-Ownership Housing Association for Public Sector Champion.

Translink pioneered the competition to engage the corporate community in supporting public transport and to encourage commuters to try the bus or train for their daily journey to work.

The competition was part of the second annual Bus + Train Week, an initiative which highlights the importance of public transport and the vital role it plays in the success of Northern Ireland supporting economic growth and social inclusion while delivering energy efficiency and ‘low carbon’ mobility.

Lynda Shannon, Communications Manager, Translink said:

“We were delighted to see a wide range of industries in Northern Ireland ‘get on-board’ the Corporate Challenge during Bus + Train Week 2017. We saw a number of creative ideas to encourage employees to try public transport, such as how our overall winner closed their carpark for a day and raised money for charity.

“This year we saw 376,000 additional passenger journeys on public transport during Bus + Train Week and the business community played an integral part in this. The week included a Business Breakfast, jointly hosted with the Institution of Civil Engineers, which saw Northern Ireland’s top business leaders come together to discuss public transport. Business industry bodies including the NI Chamber of Commerce and the Institute of Directors also called on businesses to back the initiative.

“I would like to thank all of the organisations that took part in the Corporate Challenge during Bus + Train Week 2017. We can’t wait to see who wins next year’s competition!”
